IBM Academic Initiative for Cloud Program

Dear Faculty Members/Researchers and Students,

IBM is offering members of the Academic Initiative the opportunity to receive extended access to the IBM Bluemix trial platform with no requirement for credit card information. Bluemix is IBM’s Cloud Foundry open-standards-based platform as a service (PaaS). The Academic Initiative for Cloud offer extends Bluemix trial access for faculty for 12 months (renewable) and for students who enroll in approved faculty courses for 6 months (renewable). Additionally, researchers associated with IBM's Collaborative Innovation Centers may apply for a 24-month extension to the Bluemix trial. All qualified participants have the option to renew their accounts to receive extended trial access. Participation criteria may change over time.

The explosion of Internet of Things, mobile, big data, and analytics is driving the need for students to learn and explore how flexible cloud platforms can enable innovation. Access to open-standards, cloud-based platforms will enable our ecosystem partners in academia to tackle critical skills for building, managing, and running apps of all types, such as web, mobile, big data, and smart devices. With more time provided through this offering to access the Bluemix trial, users can quickly develop and deploy applications in the most popular programming languages including mobile apps for iOS, Android, and HTML with JavaScript. Users can also gain experience creating innovative solutions with access to various data options--from predictive analytics to big data to cognitive computing.
